Tips & Tricks / Project start-up with SVEA LON Components

The start-up of a project includes sources of error which appear at a later date. Therefore we would like to show you which steps we prefer when starting up a project using SVEA LON Components in our first part of our "Tips & Tricks":

Requirements

Before you start-up with the project, please check whether all these listed documents and applications are available:

Integration tool (e. g. LonMaker™ for Windows, short "LM4W") based on LNS2 or LNS3 with latest Service Pack.
The latest LNS and LM4W Service Packs can be found on our SVEA Info-CD (art. no. 92091-059, free of charge) or just download them from our FTP Server.

Latest version of the SVEA Device Resource Files (DRFs), either on the SVEA Info-CD or on our Homepage and FTP Server.
As an option, you should furthermore install the latest version of the SVEA Universal LNS Plug-In (UPI). It is also available either on the SVEA Info-CD or on our Homepage and FTP Server.

Device applications and application descriptions (possibly device Plug-Ins) as well as device documentations to check the wiring, either on our SVEA Info-CD or on our FTP Server and Product Database.

Project start-up step by step

You should always use the described modus operandi below when starting up a project with SVEA LON components to avoid problems from the beginning:

1. Install the latest version of the SVEA Device Resource Files (DRFs). The at least needed version is always written down in the application description.

DRFs

2. Install the available, device-specific LNS Plug-Ins.

3. Copy the needed device applications (the XIF and NXE files) to a directory on your local hard disk (e. g. C:\LonWorks\Import\SVEA\artno).

4. Create the new database with the integration tool (e. g. LM4W).

5. Register the desired System Plug-Ins (e. g. UPI) to the database.

6. Register the desired device-specific Plug-Ins to the database, the needed device templates are installed at this automatically.

Templates

7. Create the device templates for the devices without a device-specific Plug-In.

8. Create the devices with the prepared device templates.

9. Important!!! You always have to download the application to the device during the commissioning procedure.

If you follow all these steps, there will be no problems with the start up of SVEA LON components.

Troubleshooting

If nevertheless problems appear, please have a look at the following to correct it:

If the configuration properties are displayed incorrect in the configuration screen of the integration tool, normally the installed version of the SVEA Device Resource Files (DRFs) was to low. In this case you have to delete all corresponding devices from the database, after that you have to delete the device template and the application-specific XFO file, which is normally placed in the same directory like the XIF and NXE file with the same name. The XFO file is generated automatically by the tool when creating a new device template. Thereafter you can install the latest version of the DRFs, create a new device template and install new device to the database.

When downloading the application to the device sometimes a warning appears because the type of the software changes. This can be ignored, because the testing software of the device (used for the product test during the manufacturing) has to have a different type than the customer software.

If an error message appears when you try to download the application which shows something like "wrong application image" you have chosen the wrong application version to the installed hardware with its newron firmware. Please have a look at the "readme.txt" file in the application directory to choose the needed application fitting to the newron firmware.
